Through the first series of the Sailor Moon story, Usagi has many doubts as to if she is really able to be Sailor Moon and do a good job of it. Just prior to her confrontation with the queen of the Negaverse, she learns that she is not only Sailor Moon, but she is also the Moon Princess. This adds a lot more pressure to Usagi and she wishes that she could return to being an ordinary girl. After Sailor Moons confrontation with the evil queen of the Negaverse she is transported back home still wishing she could return to being an ordinary girl. When she gets back home, though she doesn't know it, she has her wish. She has lost all her memories of being Sailor Moon and the Moon Princes. Indeed, all of the Sailor Scouts have lost their memories of being Sailor Scouts. This lasts for only a short time and the next villain appears to place the world in danger. A short time later Luna has no choice, but to restore the Usagi's memories so Sailor Moon can protect the Earth from the new threat. The Sailor Scouts first few encounters with the new villains are successful. Usagi's doubts have returned though, with the rest of her memories, and her desire to return to being an ordinary girl grows stronger. Then Usagi finds herself once again in battle against the new villains and this time her Tiara fails to work. Luna is amazed since it isn't possible for anything to be wrong with Sailor Moon's Tiara. The other Sailor Scouts are able to defeat the new foe. In the next confrontation, the foe already has the other Sailor Scouts under her control when Sailor Moon arrives. Again Sailor Moon's Tiara fails her; she and Luna are defeated by the foe. For a while it seems as Sailor Moon and Luna have died. Their spirits go on a journey during which Luna tells Sailor Moon that the reason she wasn't able to defeat the foe was that her desire to be an ordinary girl was stronger than her wish to save her friends. Sailor Moon and Luna have an encounter with her mother Queen Serenity. Usagi had not been aware of how her desire to be an ordinary girl had placed her friends and others in danger and she wants to save them. Usagi spontaneously turns into the Moon Princess and her mother remakes Sailor Moon's transformational broach with the Silver Crystal inside. Queen Serenity tells Usagi that the power she needs to save her friends is in the broach and that it is made stronger by her desire to save them. Saying the new transformational phrase "Moon Crystal Power", instead of the original "Moon Prism Power", Usagi uses the broach to transform from the Moon Princess into Sailor Moon. She returns to the scene of the battle just in time to defeat the foe and save the other Sailor Scouts.
