Films:
My favorite films are the chromes; I love those bright colors on the screen. Sure putting up
the screen and getting out the projector takes five minutes. but photo albums aren’t exactly
the most convenient things either. Then after you’ve got it only a couple of people can view
your pictures at once unless you want to get everything printed at 16 inches by 20 inches,
ouch! just thinking about the expense of that hurts. Yes, chrome film costs more than negative
film, but the processing costs less. I generally find the total cost between chrome and quality
print processing to be very close.
I shoot negative film when I know up front that I want prints and usually when I’ll want
multiple sets. The usual stuff, birthday parties, holiday gatherings, in general the kind of
thing I shoot with one of my simple cameras.
My favorite film speed is ISO 200. As I’ve mentioned other places I often find myself in
places where a tripod just isn’t the thing to be fiddling with. I am also critical of blur
and grain in my pictures; I find the ISO 200 to be an excellent compromise. On the occasion
where I need to I shoot an ISO 100 or if more appropriate I move to a larger film format.
