After I finished memorizing the Hiragana, I made a list of all the Japanese words, phrases,
and particles I could think of. This was the beginning of my vocabulary list. I checked the
spelling and meaning of each and started memorizing them. Each day I pick one and write it
in Hiragana twenty times while I recite the word I am writing and it's meaning. The
link below is to a MS Word file that contains my vocabulary list. The ones that are grayed
are the ones I feel confident I know. I add to my list when I find a new word. If you down
load this file, as you should with any file you down load, be sure to check it for viruses
before you open it. In order to see the words that are written in Hiragana, you will need
the Microsoft Mincho font. This is a True Type font and is available for download from
Microsoft and is available as part of the Microsoft Office Japanese Support package which
is on the Microsoft Office CD in the Value folder. The file name is JpnSupp.exe and when
the file is executed it installs automatically. Remember, before and after you install
anything run your virus checker.
Starting with this revision, the format of my vocabulary list has changed. I wanted more
space for the definitions, and I wanted to add a column for adding Kanji characters. To
do this I have removed the column that had the Romaji. I removed it for other reasons
too. I didn't think I really needed it anymore and Romaji has led me astray on a few
occasions.
